Welcome to the Stella Vista Lodge Website
Stella Vista Lodge
Set on the Continental Divide at 8000 feet atop Elk Ridge, Stella Vista is a
charming getaway lodge offering fabulous views (north, east and west) of an
ancient seabed in old Apache country and prospects of the many-hued Sawtooth
Mountain range.
Here you can gaze at the stars of startling brilliance in the darkest skies
of the Southwest; you will see fabled sunsets and cloudscapes in the luminous
desert air; you will experience the silence, deep and soothing, of the High
New Mexican desert.
Here is the opportunity for solitude and communion. Pristine water from hundreds
of feet below refresh the body and spirit.
Stella Vista provides simple but comfortable quarters. A queen master bedroom
with private bath and large garden tub. The guest room has a queen bed and double
futon with its own bath, a washer and dryer, a nice fully equipped kitchen with
full sized fridge, a coffee maker, toaster oven and a wood stove for chilly
mountain evenings. The covered deck with open observation area overlooks the
Sawtooth Mountains. The darkest and clearest skies in the continental United
States, provide breathtaking views of the stars.
Proximity to wilderness, hiking, canyons, lava fields, geological treasures,
ancient caverns; to hunting and fishing and to radio astronomy and Virgin Galactic's
Spceport America, make this undiscovered retreat uniquely delightful.
With the stars at your finger tips, Stella Vista is totally private on 33 acres
bordered by state land.
Stella Vista sleeps two or three couples with a king-sized futon in the living
room. An additional lodging set on a promontory accommodates one person at the
Casita, a stone cottage overlooking the Sawtooth and the Allergies mountains.
The Casita features a woodstove and a skylight directly over the bed, to enable
you to see the stellar canopy
Full kitchen available. Or dine out at either the Daily Pie Café, or,
on weekends, at the Pie-oneer restaurant.
Also available for rental is a 20" Dobsonion telescope with operator-astronomer
Michael Robinson, at the nearby Star Rancher Observatory. Here you may take
a "Tour of the Universe," observing planets, star clusters, nebulae
and galaxies (weather permitting…darkest skies occur within 3-4 days of
a full moon)
